This trilogy, composed of works from the artist’s #walking and #self photographic series, reflects her walks through the city as a stranger and as a woman in Istanbul. Do the women who become, and do not become, the subjects of the photographs, whose bodies move through the city as dissolving silhouettes, produce a form of anonymity in which they lose themselves? The sense of estrangement evoked by these silhouettes, which she perceives as standing outside the flow of the city just as she does, and the feeling that this estrangement is not identical to her own as an observer, are approached in the photographs through the idea that these women can never be seen clearly. Hidden behind secondary and tertiary exposures, they are marked by a natural layer of censorship, and the images are therefore understood less as photographs than as stain-like studies.
